Artist bio
Iacovos Loizou
(b. 1993)
Iacovos Loizou is a Nicosia-based Cypriot artist, researcher and urban planner working in the hybrid territories between contemporary art and urban design.
His creative practice explores new forms of expression in which animals and monsters are depicted through strong elements of social commentary and humour. Drawing heavily from the visual language of children’s drawings, Iacovos approaches art as a playful, intuitive and evolving process. His goal is to continue growing as an artist, expanding his skills and creating work that inspires others to think and act differently to reconnect with their inner childhood, embrace freedom and have fun.
Iacovos has exhibited internationally, showcasing his work in Cyprus, Poland, Greece, the Netherlands and Japan through artist residencies, group exhibitions and solo shows.
With an academic background in urban planning and design from University College London, his artwork is strongly influenced by long observation walks and the everyday experience of the urban environment. These explorations inform his visual language, themes and characters.
Beyond his artistic practice, Iacovos remains actively engaged in urban planning and research. He is the co-founder of OPU Collective, a Nicosia-based NGO addressing contemporary urban challenges, and a researcher at the Department of Architecture at the University of Cyprus.
