Who is mr kok?
Overview
My favourite cartoon as a kid was Pingu. I loved the vibes, the language and the attitude. As a teenager, I became fascinated by how penguins stand out in the animal kingdom.
In 2012, a friend taught me how to draw simple penguin figures wearing a hat. Around the same time, I watched a YouTube video about Lala, a king penguin living as a pet in a Japanese village and exploring the neighbourhood as part of his daily routine. This moment sparked my imagination and inspired me to create my own stories.
That is how Mr Kok was born, a wordplay reference to a traditional Cypriot dessert. I began drawing him in different scenarios and, at the age of 18, self-published a comic book, selling only a few copies to friends and family.
Twelve years later, Mr Kok has become the trademark character of my work, appearing across canvas paintings, ceramics and wooden figures.
